Knits are something I tend to keep in my wardrobe rotation all year round. Heavier, chunky knits in the fall and thinner, layering knits for spring and summer. The one con with owning and loving knits is that they are prone to snags and catch on just about everything. Even if you’re not a seamstress, there are a few tricks to know that will easily save a snag before it turns into something bigger. All you need is a beginners sewing kit which you can pick up from the dollar store or drug store.

No matter what you do, do not, I repeat, do not cut the snag! That will just create much bigger problems and it may unravel the whole knit! Grab some thread, a sewing needle and a pair of scissors and try out this DIY solution for a pesky snag:

  1. Thread the needle with a thread in a similar colour to your snagged knit.
  2. Thread the needle through the middle of your loose snag.
  3. Secure the thread in place by tying a small knot around the snag with your thread.
  4. Once you’ve tied a small knot, push the needle through where the snag originated, there will most likely be a small hole.
  5. Now, flip your knit over or inside out and pull the needle all the way through. This will pull the snag to the underside of the fabric so that it is no longer visible.
  6. Cut the thread but make sure not to cut it too short and leave little tails.
  7. Flip your garment back to right side out and, viola!
