After relocating to Toronto on a whim, I recently started a new job at an advertising agency. Situated inside a stone heritage building that was once a distillery, the environment is as hip as it sounds. The dress code is reflective of the space, relaxed but put together, more fashion forward and trendy than it is casual. As a result of my new nine to five, I’ve had to step it up in the outfit department. Although everyone brings their own sense of style to work, I’ve noticed a couple of key staples that everyone seems to have in their wardrobe.
1. Ankle Booties
A pair of black pointy-toed ankle bootie is the shoe of choice due to its versatility; it goes with everything from casual jeans to dressier bottoms for client meetings. I prefer a flatter boot with a chunkier heel when I’m running from meeting to meeting.

2. Ripped Jeans
A pair of high-waisted or ripped boyfriend jeans makes an appearance in the office at least three times a week. It pairs well with ankle booties and with more classic pieces like button ups or blazers.

3. Leather Coated Pants
Great for work and happy hour with the coworkers are leather-look pants. I overheard one of my colleagues say that the ones from Aritzia have lasted her three years and are still going strong.

Another repeat offender around the office is the oversized sweater. I’ve seen this piece in every colour, paired with boots and sneakers, and in a spring friendly vest silhouette.

Whether it’s a leather jacket or a blazer with leather sleeves, leather is perpetually popular at my agency. I’ve seen this piece paired with pants, skirts, dresses, kicks, and heels.
