The crop top – the midriff-baring summer staple that for many women generates a bit of anxiety by the thought of wearing one. I can definitely relate to this anxiety but in reality, crop tops are actually extremely flattering and can be styled so little to no skin is showing (if that is your preference).
The reason crop tops are so flattering is because they draw attention to the thinnest part of a women’s body – the middle of the ribcage. The key to rockin’ the crop top style is to add height to your bottoms so only a glimpse of your mid-section is showing. If you want to go the more modest route, opt for a crop top that’s longer in length, baggier, has sleeves or is made out of a thicker material.
You can also pair with a bright-coloured bottom, which will distract from the top, or style with a pair of overalls so only the sides of your mid-section are showing. If you’re not into showing any skin at all, try layering things up by wearing over a longer top. And for those of you with ab-worthy midriffs, you really can’t go wrong in the crop top department!
So ladies, cast your fears aside and show your mid-section some love this summer. Here are a few of my crop top favourites. Which one is yours?
