Casual Friday shouldn’t be taken too literally when it comes to choosing out what to wear at your nine to five. It can be tricky picking out a work outfit especially as the weather heats up. No matter how hot it is, it’s so important to keep your wardrobe work appropriate. Of course there may be a few exceptions depending on your work place, but here are 10 things to avoid at the office:
1. Anything wrinkled… Take those few extra minutes in the AM to pull out the ironing board or heat up the steamer to get those wrinkles out. That way it doesn’t look you just pulled your clothes out of a heap on your bedroom floor before heading to work.
2. Cut-offs… We all love them but save them for off-duty outfits only, unless you work at a country bar. Stick to stylish pencil or breezy pleated skirts.
3. Low-rise pants… If you can’t bend over without showing a bit of underwear or have to pull them up immediately then they’re probably a no, no for work.
4. Flip flops… Even in a fashion-forward office you can get away with a lot of things, even crop tops and sweatpants can work nowadays however flip flops will never be one of those things.
5. Thin straps, halter or strapless tops… A good rule of thumb is to keep your shoulders covered in a work environment.
6. Body con… Although you most likely look ah-mazing in it, body-con anything is just meant for going out or for date night.
7. Wet hair… Taking the time to do your hair can completely finish off your look and make you look polished. No matter how laid-back your work environment is, I’m a strong believer in never showing up to work with wet hair.
8. Panty lines and bra straps… No-one at work needs to know anything about your undergarments.
9. Anything too sheer… Although your blouse may be beautiful as well as the bra you wear with it, it’s just not appropriate for the work environment and may be distracting to your co-workers. Save your pretty, sheer pieces for the weekends or nights out.
10. Fishnet tights… Just no. Even on Halloween, I’d think twice.
