Casual Fridays are supposed to offer reprieve from pulling together business attire Monday through Thursday, but can actually cause more stress. I credit this stress to the reality that casual can be interpreted in many ways and in most cases, does not steer too far from what you’d wear the rest of the week. It’s worthwhile to put in the extra effort to gauge what type of work environment you’re in and adjust your wardrobe choices accordingly – dressing appropriately at work does not go unnoticed.
Wondering where to begin? Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Look to what those one level higher than you are wearing and try to match it.
- Pay attention to details; things like if most people are wearing close-toe shoes, you should do the same.
- Make sure you’re buying clothes that fit in a flattering way (not too tight and not too big).
- If you can wear jeans on Fridays, opt for a dark or black wash.
- Add a pair of heels to your look to kick it up a notch.
- Find inspiration online and in magazines – ways to help you stand out from a crowd in a perfectly polished manner.
