The last time I sported a vest before this year was in the early 2000′s when puffer vests were at their peak. Times have changed. When vests started to return to the fashion circuit, I thought it would be a short-lived trend, but they are sticking around. The best part – there are so many fashionable, versatile options to choose from.
It’s likely most people won’t want to add multiple vests to their wardrobe so it’s a good idea to think about which vest option would work best for you and your lifestyle. I personally enjoy all of the dressier options that are available because they add extra luxe to an overall look. Here are a few different vests and ways they can be worn.
Faux fur or feather… Faux fur and feather vests are definitely a dressier option – but they can be paired with something equally as dressy, or with something more casual to bring it up a notch. For example, try pairing one of these vests with a sleeveless cocktail dress – maybe something with sequins for the holidays. It will add texture and depth. Pair a faux fur vest with something as casual as jeans and a plaid flannel shirt for a cozy, wintery appeal. Violet Feather Vest, $198.50 CAD, Club Monaco
Moto… Moto style vests are also a dressier option, but with an added edge. If you’re looking for more of an urban look/feel then the moto vest is for you. There are many different materials to choose from – leather or faux leather the most common. Try pairing a moto vest with something really feminine to balance it out. Faux Shearling Moto Vest, $51.90 CAD, Forever 21
Casual Vest… Instead of thinking an outdoor, casual vest needs to be a puffer style, try something that’s oversized, yet tailored that can be layered on top of your favourite fall sweaters and jackets. This is a vest that tends to look even better as you add cold weather layers like scarves and hats. Wilfred Chatou Vest, $225 CAD, Aritzia
Menswear Inspired… Finally – something with a little menswear inspired tailoring is another style of vest to try. This is a great option to wear with something simple like a cotton long-sleeve tee, skinny jeans and flats. Or, to dress it up a bit for night, add in a statement necklace, a pair of heeled ankle boots and a bold lipstick. This style of vest is also a great way to elevate your work wardrobe. Try wearing it with heels, leather leggings and a long white collared shirt. Hybrid Slim Coat, Approx $159.00 CAD, TOPSHOP
