If you can believe it, it’s the end of December. Which means that New Years Eve has crept up on us (on me, anyway!) really quickly. I have a love hate relationship with New Years Eve, as I’m sure some of you do as well. It always has such promise and seems like it could and should be such a fun night, but more often than not it just becomes an incredibly expensive logistical nightmare. Do I sound a little cranky? I have just had way too many NYE’s that didn’t live up to my expectations. Two of my least favourite NYE’s include the time when a group of friends and I bought tickets to a ‘Hollywood Mansion Party’ that turned out not to exist (even though our pricey tickets were definitely real!), and the year that I ended up basically just fighting with my (now, thankfully ex) boyfriend the entire night. Sound familiar?
In case you’ve decided (like me) to forego the traditional party and are planning to ring in 2015 by ordering takeout with your gal pals or kicking back at a cabin with family, then I’ve got a few fun things you can wear to elevate your look without having to shell out on a fancy new dress. Because sometimes the best nights are those spent at home, wearing comfortable (but still cute) clothes and hanging out with the ones you love!
Shrunken Metallic Sweater, $37.99 CAD, GAP – If a sparkly sweater isn’t the perfect thing for a New Years in, then I don’t know what is. I’d wear this with comfy leggings and a pair of cozy slippers.
Kate Spade New York Bow Earrings, $48 CAD, Hudson’s Bay – A pair of fun earrings is a simple way to feel put together and to look like you’ve put effort and thought into your look. I love to pair special earrings with casual outfits for an interesting contrast. Kate Spade Bow Earrings $48
Sevireni, $19.99 CAD, ALDO – These pretty flats feature a sparkly pointed toe and are the simplest way to add a little something to the most casual outfit; even your leggings and oversized sweatshirt would look cute with these.
Foil Dot Tee, approx $52 CAD, J.Crew – This fun shirt combines three of my favourite things – stripes, polka dots and gold. I’d wear this with dark denim and some cozy boots or slippers for an evening by the fire.
Wilfred Free Rapport Leggings, $110 CAD, Aritzia – Faux leather leggings are, in my opinion, the best fashion invention in quite some time. They’re just as comfortable as regular leggings but 1000 times more chic.
